The myth of the hotel bar is more alive than ever. Somewhere between mysterious and the absolute openness that comes with complete anonymity, coupled with delicious cocktails, long drinks and co. the hotel bar becomes a refuge, far from reality. A little James Bond, a little Lost in Translation and always a touch of local culture and history. It has long since ceased to be disreputable and grubby; instead, understated elegance is the watchword.

The hotel bar is experiencing a renaissance not only among travellers but also locals, who are getting a taste for a little break from the stressful daily routine. And so we set off searching for the perfect bar for tourists and Berliners alike in the city's hotels. We finally find it at Gendarmenmarkt, a true architectural jewel. But unfortunately, while the historic square is a tourist highlight, it is often neglected by the locals.

Yet it is worth every visit, especially at night - at its edge is our destination: the Heritage Bar in the newly opened Hotel Luc. The bar area and menu prove to be small but fine. Just like the directly adjoining Heritage restaurant - which is definitely worth a visit - the bar is also decorated in dark tones. From the wall colour to the historic location and furnishings, the Wilhelminian heritage runs through the entire concept.

The atmosphere is cosy and relaxed thanks to many indirect light sources, dark wood, as well as velvet furniture and copper elements. The splendour of the past is combined with the minimalism of the present to create something uniquely new. As in the restaurant, the bar follows Heritage's motto: finding the new in the old. And so, in addition to the classics, the menu also features their own creations, which makes a choice difficult but the evening all the more fun.

After we have cheerfully tasted our way through the menu, here are our highlights: "A World of Blue" already scores points with its presentation. An intensely blue cocktail - matching the design of the bar and restaurant - served in a martini glass. Instead of chemical colourings and flavourings, this fascinating creation contains grapefruit gin and juice, as well as elderflower, creating a fresh, fruity cocktail. The radiant colour comes from the microalgae spirulina - a superfood, by the way.

At the other end of the cocktail card and scale, "Bread + Butter" particularly convinced us. In contrast to the previous cocktail, this drink is somewhat spicy, in the truest sense of the word. Also based on gin, lemon and rosemary bring an intense aroma and, thanks to ginger beer, a slight spiciness to the cocktail. The icing on the cake, in our case, is instead salt and pepper on the "Bread + Butter" because this cocktail is actually spiced. Another highlight are the non-alcoholic drinks so that even the designated driver can enjoy the evening.

Thanks to its location in the immediate vicinity of the Komische Oper, the Konzerthaus Berlin, the Staatsoper and Friedrichstraße with its many tempting shops, the Heritage Bar is the perfect place to go for concert and opera-goers as well as for a little drink after a successful shopping trip. Or we forget the excuses, after all, a delicious cocktail and an evening stroll through one of Berlin's most beautiful squares is reason enough to pay the Heritage Bar a visit. Whether you're a tourist or a Berliner.
