Journey into the Night A youthful casual bar in the West

Until four weeks ago, there was nowhere in Charlottenburg and the surrounding area for under-40s to go for an excellent after work drink in the early afternoon, or cocktails and good music later in the evening. That’s now changed with the bar Journey into the Night.

You no longer have to trek out to Mitte, Neukölln, or Kreuzberg to party and drink in a youthful, casual atmosphere. The team behind successful concepts such as the cafe What do you fancy love? and breakfast spot A never ever ending lovestory landed their next coup in the West.

Brothers Ritchie and Giacomo Bogel, both members of actor Jürgen Vogel’s patchwork family, brought Ritchie’s wife Nabila Farah-Vogel on board for this project, who was made responsible for the interior. The two have also just had their first child, all whilst bringing the evening’s new place to be to life.

At what initially seemed like a rather droll area, one of the railway arches between Savignyplatz and Bleibtreustraße, native Mexican Nabila created a cool, exotic interior for Journey into the Night that lets you forget about the more conservative Charlottenburg area. Green hangings from the ceiling and a carpet with palm leaves create an urban jungle feelings.

Numerous stuffed animals, some of which have accompanied Nabila for many years and are a personal passion of hers, have found a home between green walls, art, and neon signs. Guests sit on wide, black lime-washed steps, which line the walls in three levels, or directly at the bar.

The lighting in Journey into the Night is dim, as in any respectable bar, and a DJ plays live music in the later hours. The room isn’t large, which only adds to the party mood. And in the early evening hours during the summer months you can even enjoy your drinks on a terrace in front of the bar.

For which bartender Mario Möloth is responsible. He developed each signature drink himself, and we’re particularly taken by the “Mary June”, a cocktail of gin, lime juice, agave, rosemary, and soda water. Möloth naturally also mixes the classics, virgin cocktails, and individual requests for an exhilarating journey into the night. Cheers!
