Social networks have added new dimensions to the concept of neighbourhood. How beautiful an analogue approach of two neighbours can look in the real world can be experienced at Gasthaus Waltz in the Glockenbachviertel.
The new restaurant, which opened at the end of 2022, combines the culinary diversity of Austria with the rustic charm of a Bavarian restaurant.
But instead of hearty, greasy dishes, the kitchen team at Waltz serves a balanced mix of light fish dishes (rainbow trout mousse for 16 euros, sturgeon for 31 euros), vegetarian delicacies - fabulously good: the Schaftopfen spaetzle - and meat specialities such as lamb belly (26 euros) or Tafelspitz croquettes (17 euros).
The Styrian fried chicken (23 euros) has established itself as a signature dish. It is served with Vogerl salad (lamb's lettuce), cranberries and parsley potatoes and tastes better than many a schnitzel.
The clearly laid-out menu at Waltz generally only offers a good dozen finely composed dishes, but they change almost weekly! In addition, all culinary components come from regional producers from Bavaria and Austria.
If you have a big appetite, it's best to put together your favourites in a four-, five- or six-course menu - including a place setting consisting of bread specially produced for the Waltz by Julius Brantner.
In addition to Austria's national cuisine, the modern restaurant also introduces its guests to traditional and innovative wines from Europe. After all, the owners, Stefan Grabler and Markus Hirschler, are sommeliers themselves and used to run the Grapes wine bar in the Cortiina Hotel for years.
The Waltz wine cellar now contains about 850 items, mainly wines from the supplier Weinfurore. You can listen to the expert explanations of the two native Austrians about each bottle either at one of the light wooden tables or at the small bar - cheers to the neighbourhood!
