Parker Bowles
Prinzenstraße 85 d
am Moritzplatz
10969 Berlin-Kreuzberg
.How to get there
Theoretically, you could spend a whole day at recently opened Parker Bowles on Moritzplatz. The newest member of the Aufbauhaus collective offers everything your culinary dreams are made of, from breakfast and business lunch to dinner and after-work drinks.
Along comes a presentable interior with a rather rough and rustic side downstairs evolving into a more sophisticated, elegant part on the upper floor. The good impression is completed by the relatively young staff who despite their age come across well-practiced and make for superbe company during our dinner.
Dishes at Parker Bowles carry humorous names such as 'Dim Sum Loose Some', 'Welcome to Vienna' or 'Coddi d'Azure'. Our appetizers of choice are a 'Wild Herb Salad' with blackpudding chips and pear, and the 'Tartar Deluxe' of Holstein beef as well as the 'Sesame Meatballs'. The latter one sends us on a high with a grandiose combination of sesame coated meatballs alongside little heaps of potato-cilantro-purée. Excellent!
Our main course, called 'La Bestia' turns out to truly live up to its name. This dish consists of a 500g piece of boneless hanger steak, prepared sous vide and a serious challenge even for two people, considering the appetizers. Vegetable spaghetti and polenta fries are served on the side.
The bottom line is that Parker Bowles is definitely worth a visit. Despite some minor flaws in the kitchen, everything surrounding it is already practically perfect. A visionary concept for a newly revitalized spot in good old Kreuzberg. Next time, we're going for the drinks – whose reputation precedes them!
