Biererei Bar & Vintage Cellar
Oranienstraße 185
10999 Berlin-Kreuzberg
.How to get there
There are days that call for a cold beer. And why not something really special? In that case a stop in the Kreuzberg 36 neighbourhood is recommended, at the beer shop of the likeable brewing enthusiast Cihan Çağlar.
It all started seven years ago at Oranienstraße 19, a few houses away from the bar, when Cihan opened his beer store there and offered several hundred brewery specialities from all over the world. There was even a growler station, a device where customers could fill their own containers (growlers) with fresh beer. A normal thing, of course, in the USA. In this country however, it is rather a rarity (or a memory of great-grandparents who were sent to the innkeeper with a jug as children).
Well, the young Kreuzberger enjoyed serving and advising so much that he wanted to offer more of it, and so the Biererei Bar & Vintage Cellar was added in 2018. Immediately upon entering, it is clear this is not a beer-filled corner pub but a sophisticated speciality bar. The benches along the walls and the bar stools are appropriately coloured hops-green, and around the central bar block, guests experience competent advice or a lively exchange about the diverse and surprising flavours and varieties.
Behind it, the view falls on the spectacular walk-in cooling and storage room. While most convivial beers should be drunk as fresh as possible, many brewing specialities also benefit from maturing, which adds further facets. In particular, styles such as Barley Wine, Trappist beers, Vintage Ales, and sour beers have delicious development potential.
Suppose you ask Cihan Çağlar about the concept of the Biererei Bar. In that case, he answers: "Guests can look forward to changing varieties of delicious beer from 20 taps and a walk-in temperature-controlled beer maturation room at the back of the bar. The focus lies on beer from German, Scandinavian and American breweries that brew beer independently and creatively in small batches."
Cihan is currently also working the brewing kettle himself, lending a hand to brewmaster Ramiro Rodríguez Etchelet. The Argentinean has been brewing in Buenos Aires since 2008 and launched his Berlin branch Gorilla Cervecería Berlin in February 2021 with exciting brews ranging from lager to stout. A unique West Coast India Pale Ale is being created for Biererei to appropriately celebrate its fourth birthday on March 18th.
Congratulations, and we look forward to the next surprises at Biererei.
