Literaturcafé Wintergarten
Fasanenstraße 23
10719 Berlin-Charlottenburg
.How to get there

Whether you're going for breakfast, lunch or dinner, the Literaturcafé is the right choice at any time during the day. On cold days, you can settle in the beautiful conservatory or in one of the turn-of-the-century villa's sterling rooms. In summer, the front garden will lure you with tables dressed in beautiful white cloth underneath big sun shades.

Situated on Fasanenstraße, right by Kurfürstendamm, the building bears colorful history. Being in private hands only between 1890 and 1916, it was then purchased by well-known entrepreneur Wertheim in 1918 and in the following, became home to several clubs and associations like the Red Cross, the Humboldt Foundation or the Russian Youth club.

After the war, the house was temporarily served as refugee and emergency shelter, then turned into a nightclub and was finally listed as a protected monument in 1980. Restoration works began in 1984 and since its reopening in 1989 the impressive mansion accommodates the Berlin House and Café of Literature. The program offers regular readings and other literary events, as well as a permanent book store in the building's basement.

The café offers classic fine dining. The menu changes daily and offers a selection of delicious appetizers and entrées as well as desserts. Solid-looking cakes await you in the display, and even though the breakfast menu does not offer anything exceptional, all egg dishes and other classics are remarkably good and well-prepared.

The Litaturcafé has been one of my favorite spots in the city for years now. Whether first date or family gathering, business lunch or a reunion with friends, you cannot go wrong with this Berlin gem.
