Michael Hanke. Age twenty-nine. Barman. Creative. Innovative. Bold. The bartender - who without a doubt can be counted amongst the best in town and has worked at renowned stations including Rum Trader, Amano Bar, and Cookies as well as Victoria Bar and Croco Bleu - chose the tourist-heavy Oranienburger Straße in Mitte of all places for the location of his first bar of his very own. It’s called ADA and Friday the impeccably filled bar and kitchen opens, offering full meals as well as snacks.

Henceforth, every five to seventh months the bar will reinvent itself- not just through the drinks and food menus, but even the interior will be rearranged. “Tiki and Pirates” is the first theme with south sea impressions and exotic cocktails in “kitsch as kitsch can” Tiki cups, imported from England and ready to whisk you off to far-away lands and an exciting world of uniquely blended aromas.

Classic salad creations along with seafood and spicy chicken wings create a good base for the heady drinks- often served together as a food-pairing creation. Our Tommy Margarita, for example, was not only served in, but with a fried chicken leg. Crazy!

As a rule, only freshly pressed juices, herbs, and preferably unusual ingredients are mixed. And because of Hanke’s passion for rare spirits, he always has a number of special bottles of whiskey, gin, and rum on hand that alone make the trip worth it for any connoisseur. Evenings in ADA are accompanied by swing and funk music, with occasional live performances. Hanke, rock on!
