Where is the best place to open a café with French delicacies? That's right, in the Francophile 9th district. After all, one or two French restaurants have already established themselves here. The fine TOP02 patisserie fits perfectly into this neighbourhood with its bright location and individual studio character.
Inside, a boutique feeling and French lightness. The well-stocked display case with the colourful and creatively designed éclairs takes centre stage. It isn't easy to decide which flavour of the filled choux pastry to choose. After all, Blackberry Cheesecake sounds at least as good as Peanut Caramel Crunch.
As beautiful and unusual as the fruity, fresh, and fine-creamy éclairs are decorated, you almost feel guilty just before the first bite. After all, you don't want to ruin the baked works of art. But you should because the sophisticated combination of high-quality ingredients creates an absolute explosion of flavour in the mouth.
TOP02 is not just a patisserie, it's a place where a long-standing family tradition meets modern ideas, high-quality ingredients, and creative flavour combinations. The owners, Alexandru and Laura Top, infuse their products with a personal touch and a hint of nostalgia. Alexandru, who practically grew up in a bakery in his native Romania, brings his childhood memories and love for baking to the table.
There, he learnt the art of making éclairs and other sweet treats. He was practically born with the art of baking. At the location here in Vienna, these merge with Laura's patisserie skills. Incidentally, the name of the café can be traced back to the surname of the two; the 2 is the restaurant's house number. The term "Top" is also typical for flat and door numbers in Vienna.
In addition to éclairs, TOP02 also serves tartelettes, pralines, homemade ice cream and excellent coffee. They are baked in the basement of the café. If you follow the sweet notes of chocolate, you will also find a showroom where the chocolates are made by hand. The small patisserie has definitely found its niche and has been serving arguably the best éclairs in the city since it opened in 2023.
The restaurant also has a beautiful pavement café. When the sun is shining, you can enjoy café au lait here and watch the hustle and bustle of the university quarter.
