.How to get there
At the WunderLocke Hotel in Obersendling, the Mural Farmhouse delights with its strict regional culinary concept. The ingredients come exclusively from the hotel's own rooftop garden and from local producers - which earned it a Michelin star and a Green Star at the beginning of 2023.
Diversity is the word of the day. Diversity is not only an enrichment in interpersonal relationships but also in the culinary arts. The Mural Farmhouse in Obersendling shows that this is also possible in a green and sustainable way.
The kitchen philosophy includes offering a variety of dishes, combining different flavours and consistencies on one plate and doing so with exclusively local ingredients. Every product used by the kitchen team around head chef Rico Birndt comes from the region, ideally even from Munich-Obersendling.
Vegetables, fruit and herbs have the shortest route from the patch to the kitchen because they are grown and harvested directly on the Mural Farmhouse rooftop garden with around 200 square metres of cultivation area.
The large, leafy rooftop terrace is more or less the heart of the Mural Farmhouse, which celebrated its opening in the WunderLocke Hotel in spring 2022. Since then, the restaurateurs Moritz Meyn and Wolfgang Hingerl have celebrated the farm-to-table concept most beautifully - and in three different areas at once.
In addition to the rooftop garden location with its street food menu, guests have access to a separate bar, serving good drinks and fine snacks, and the actual restaurant. There, you can choose à la carte or enjoy Rico Birndt's star award-winning multi-course menu in a separate area.
"My kitchen is like a kind of laboratory. I use all the techniques in the world that are compatible with regional products, for example, fermenting, pickling, drying," says the chef.
The results are as tasty as they are creative - whether nettle dumplings with nut butter, lake trout sashimi, gnocchi with roasted black pudding or baked portobello mushroom with hollandaise. The dishes at the Mural Farmhouse combine Bavarian and Asian cuisine and are an unbeatable variety.
