.How to get there

It never hurts to have a minor entertainment factor when dining out. But the right amount is crucial. The perfect balance between fine dining and entertainment can be found at Doma Restaurant in Munich's old town, which opened at the end of 2021. Directly opposite Viktualienmarkt, Bavarian delicacies with an Austrian twist meet international dishes in the most creative ways.

Whether signature dishes like lobster with popcorn, desserts like a Hungarian Dobos tart with dulce de leche, or vegetarian dishes like carrot with blood orange: all meals by head chef Peter Wiedner, who comes from Carinthia and has already worked at Berlin's Michelin-starred restaurant Horváth, are innovative in their components and delicious in taste. "We place a lot of emphasis on sustainability and quality, buying regionally as well as according to season," explains the expert.

This has its price, but the welcome alone is inspiring: instead of a few plain slices of baguette, there is a fresh (still warm!) mini-loaf of sourdough bread in pretzel form, from Munich's baking genius Julius Brantner, complete with butter and fresh chives - great!

The regularly changing menu at Doma is straightforward, but it is recommended to order a 3-, 4- or 5-course "Chefs Choice" menu and let Peter Wiedner and his team surprise you.

By the way, you can experience their skills live thanks to the open show kitchen in the back of the restaurant. Whether it's arranging the homemade pasta, frothing the sweet potato soup or mixing the apple and tarragon dressing for the salad, you can even pick up a professional trick or two while observing how the delightful creations are made.

At Doma, it is not only the food that is original but also the drinks - from the "Mountain Gimlet" with vodka, honey, and lime to the "Hot Box" (brandy, chinotto, red wine syrup, cedarwood, lemon) to fancy digestifs like the "KaRuBa" with rum, coffee liqueur, Banane du Bresil and black walnut.

The ambience of the bar-restaurant scores again with modern design, gold elements, velvet furniture, concrete walls and contemporary art. The mix of designer showroom and Great Gatsby is not new but perfectly fits Doma's gastronomy experience.

The name, by the way, means something like "home" or "here" - we are in Bavaria. We definitely felt in good hands, not least thanks to the attentive staff and the relaxed atmosphere.
