Switch off. Immerse. Let your soul dangle. The Seehotel am Neuklostersee in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern near the Hanseatic city of Wismar is a real gem in the countryside, the perfect place to get away from the stress of the big city.

Sunshine falls on the lush lavender rondel in front of the quaint brick house. It is framed by opulent beech trees, casual rose bushes grow along the wall, a haunting tranquility lies over the lakeside hotel that is immediately transferred to the arriving guest. At right angles to the stone house, which also houses the restaurant with its large terrace and winter garden, stands the bathing barn.

Lushly entwined by ivy, hedges, bushes and apple trees the direct view is denied here and there. On the former farm on Lake Neuklostersee in Mecklenburg, it doesn't feel like a hotel at all. Instead, the exuberant nature at the Seehotel am Neuklostersee welcomes you with such urgency that you are drawn out again immediately after checking into your room. Into the garden, to the beds where fresh herbs grow for breakfast and dinner in the restaurant "Allesisstgut", and of course down to Lake Neuklostersee. Apple trees and green bushes line the path.

It looks inviting, even at lower temperatures. Immediately you step onto the pier, look out over the shallow water, discover a rowboat that makes you wish you could go out on the lake. You can rent it at the lakeside hotel, as well as stand-up paddle boards, surfboards, a sailboat. Or bicycles for an extended exploration tour to nearby Wismar to trace the 800-year history of the old Hanseatic city.

Close to the bathing jetty is a small sandy beach, beach chairs invite you to lounge around, hidden in the trees the "bird's nest" serves as a retreat for the smaller visitors, because they are also welcome at the Seehotel Neuklostersee. In the brick tower a few steps away, children discover thousands of little things that tickle their senses. Different bird calls, music box sounds, shimmering gems or the nesting places of butterflies, may bugs, wild bees and bats. The "Kinderhotel" in an old transformer tower, the swing over the lake, it's a wonderful place to dream.

Meanwhile, stressed parents get their money's worth in the swimming barn, which also houses some maisonette suites. The swimming pool combines the elements in a special way: When diving into the well-tempered water, the eye falls on the fire in the open fireplace, the deep windows give a view of a small birch grove. A reminiscence of the original name of the old farmstead in which the Seehotel am Neuklostersee has moved in: Birkenhof.

The feel-good house is also located in this birch grove, where numerous cosmetic treatments, massages, soothing baths and peelings help you to switch off. Perhaps it may be after an extensive walk in addition, simply a few pleasant sauna courses: the sauna landscape has to offer a lot: an aroma steam sauna, a stone steam sauna and a Finnish sauna offer pure relaxation. Afterwards, you can treat yourself to a moment of tranquility in the relaxation room by the open fireplace or in the sauna garden under the fruit trees.

In the evening, when the stomach already makes itself noticed, dinner is served in the contemplative winter garden of the restaurant "Allesisstgut". Varied menus are served here with a magnificent view of the evening lake. In the winter garden you sit comfortably under the darkening sky, further back in the restaurant the fireplace creates a cozy atmosphere, and in summer the terrace with a view of the lake beckons.

The cuisine of the "Allesisstgut" follows the slow food concept: enjoyable, conscious and with a focus on seasonal products from well-known producers from the region, meat from species-appropriate animal husbandry, the fish is caught directly from the lake in front of the front door. We enjoy three courses, for us there is wonderfully juicy veal shovel and blue mold ravioli with walnuts and quince-apricot chutney. Accompanied by a well-kept glass of wine - just perfect after a long day in the fresh autumn air.

Perhaps one moves the evening still in the appealing goose bar, which is accommodated in the art barn next door. The thatched half-timbered barn dates from the 19th century and has been lovingly restored. The two-story hall, including a galley kitchen, gallery, library and Steinway grand piano, is perfect for meetings, private events and, thanks to regular theater, readings and concerts, is firmly integrated into Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's cultural scene.

Over a drink, we have a stimulating conversation in the goose bar, leaf through a book from the library. The next morning, we enjoy our sumptuous breakfast again with a view of the lake. There is homemade bread, croissants and rolls, the buffet tempts with regional organic cheese and organic sausage specialties, regional fish, and egg dishes à la minute. Of course, there is also crunchy muesli with cottage cheese, fresh fruit and vegetables. In short: everything your heart desires and lets you start the day strengthened and full of enjoyment.

We create the perfect basis for an extended walk around the Neuklostersee, look after the Seehotel sheep, maybe we look at the over 800 year old Cistercian nuns monastery "Sonnenkamp" or rent a hotel bike for a longer tour. Maybe today we'll just seek the tranquility of the Seehotel garden and the picturesque nature. Read a little on the loungers on the meadow orchard, let the view wander over the lake. What a wonderful place the Seehotel Neuklostersee is. Perfect to escape the stress of the city for a few days and - yes - let your soul dangle.
