For over 30 years, the Altes Zollhaus has defended its title as one of Berlin’s most timeless institutions. Now, head chef Marco Müller of Rutz Restaurant and his team of three-Michelin-starred chefs have taken over the management of the Altes Zollhaus located along the Landwehr Kanal.

Florian Mennicken, who previously worked in the Lorenz Adlon Esszimmer, Facil, and also at Rutz, now spearheads the new kitchen team. Together with Müller, Mennicken has reintroduced classics from Rutz Weinbar in Kreuzberg, like the excellent tartar, the braised ox shoulder, and the black pudding.

What’s really exciting about Rutz Zollhaus is the selection of excellent Bordeaux wines, complete with real rarities and highlights. While enjoying the first-class ox tartar from the Allgäu region and its vegetarian counterpart featuring roasted carrots, host Henrik Canis pours a Scheurebe from the Bischel winery.

After this, we enjoy a 2018 Bacchus from the Wolfram Proppe winery to complement grilled lettuce with roasted country bacon, perfect ‘Königsberger Klopse’ meatballs, and roasted Neukölln black pudding with ‘Jemüse’. The pike-perch fillet with bean ragout and bacon comes accompanied by a 2018 Pinot Gris from the Fröhlich-Hake winery.
