Bullys Bakery Neukölln's Hustle & Bustle

Bullys Bakery is a lovely little cafe that I just recently discovered during an early summer stroll through Neukölln. The interior, much like the neighborhood it's located in, is creative with a shabby twist. The sandwiches behind the counter look mouth-watering – no new creations, overall, but put together lusciously. And paired perfectly with their cappuccinos, lattes or a glass of chai latte, hot chocolate or fresh ginger tea.

A big slab on the wall read a tempting assortment of tartes flambées with delicious-sounding toppings such as 'eggplant, goat cheese, walnut & honey'. But when a man behind the counter, who turned out to be the owner himself, told me that the best, i.e. their cakes, is yet to come I quickly decided to come back in the afternoon, adequately equipped with my camera.

By 4 pm, the shop was packed. You could find customers of every age from anywhere in the world at the tables. Tarte flambée, café latte and the New York cheesecake are their bestsellers. Fathers to treat their children to chocolate muffins with gooey cocoa coming out of the center. A group of Americans exchanges 'mmmh' and 'aaah' sounds passing around pieces of raspberry-rice pudding-cake, pear tart and cherry streusel cheesecake. Apparently, these baked goods are more than just good.

Also typical for this neighborhood, the staff merely speaks German, but their English is great and their service is even better. It's a very vivid place, casual and buoyant. I could've sat there watching for many more hours and, once more, felt thankful that my journey has brought me to Berlin.
