The history of PAPETERIE dates back to 1902. This is the year that Heinrich and Bertha Künneman opened a printing house on Uhlandstraße which quickly went on to include exquisite stationery as well. Their successor Liddy Reichel managed the successful store throughout the golden economic years before handing it over to Helga Müller-Klatte, who is still responsible for the store’s current character.

It was her who tirelessly brought together high-end writing utensils, fine leather goods and exquisite paper from around the world and due to her work, this kind of exclusive selection has become an integral part of the shop. She is always on the hunt for no less than the best and has successfully put together an impressive range of products.

Her son Axel Hagen Müller took over in 2013 and has been carefully combining tradition and zeitgeist ever since in order for PAPETERIE to remain unrivalled in Germany. With the utmost expertise and patience, they advise, suggest and show what is hidden in each and every drawer, shelf and cabinet. They print, emboss, engrave. As a customer you get treated as if you were the only one.

I discovered certain leather goods handmade by a Kreuzberg manufacturer that uses nothing but the softest leather for their cases, folders and desk pads. Postcards for any occasion you could possibly think of are available, among them beautiful designs by Crane&Co. Wrapping paper, letterheads and envelopes are staged next to colored pencils, pens and crayons.

Office supply classics meet desktop must-haves while still leaving some space for added adornment. One of my personal favorites were the simplistic bags of Philipp Bree’s PB0110 line. Simply amazing!

But the world wide web doesn’t stop for anyone – not even for this respected establishment – which is why the staff behind the store have been working on an online store for PAPETERIE long beforehand and are launching it any day now in order to provide customers anywhere in the world with an insight into this unique world of writing.
