There are many areas in which we wish our day-to-day items would last a tad longer. Stephan Antusch sees it the same way, and opened his shop Liv Emaille in Prenzlauer Berg already twelve years ago. Starting out as a true pioneer, he offered a platform for items that today have almost entirely disappeared from the market.

Throughout Europe, he scoured for pots, pans and table wear, but also designer pieces, made of porcelain enamel. Especially enamel pots boast countless positive attributes in their usage, even when measured up against stainless steel and Teflon. When asked about this, Stepahan Antusch of Liv Emaille can hardly be stopped…

“Porcelain enamel is made of natural raw materials, making it free of pollutants. The surface is similar to that of glass and is extremely scratch-resistant, but is also acid and brine resistant,” he explains. “In addition, porcelain enamel pots combine the positive attributes of two materials and, and thanks to their cast iron body, are able to evenly distribute heat.” That’s why enamel pots can also be used for induction cooktops.

Liv Emaille is an Eldorado for enamel lovers. From the king-size paella pans, to house numbers, to multicoloured Mexican trays – Stephan Antusch certainly has his share of exotic items on offer. And to commemorate his childhood, even a few enamel-free egg cups, soap pouches and net shopping totes from original production sites out of former east Germany have been added to the mix – really nicely done!
