How many can look back on traditions spanning over 400 years? Founded in 1618 as a spice trader, the product range has changed and expanded over time, that it makes it almost impossible to restrict Zum Schwarzen Kameel, the black camel, to just one category: classy restaurant, epic bar, legendary canapés, wine store, deli, patisserie, you name it.

Whenever I go in or just walk by, it always seems crowded. You can meet your friends for lunch, or have a quick bite in between shopping stops or before the theater. Special ambiance to go with exceptional sandwiches is a must at Zum Schwarzen Kameel. They're also beautiful to look at, all presented nicely at the self-service counter, so I constantly end up with more than I was planning to have just for the sight of it.

And if you want it to be a bit more than that, you can book a table inside the elegant restaurant. The interior is very cultivated, and the century-old fittings and decorations add no less to that. The premises pay homage to the Viennese Jugendstil! Maître Johann Georg Gensbichler welcomes his guests personally, and I feel comfortable and well taken care of by his knowing team. He also signs responsible for an excellent selection of wines and well-assorted cheeses.

Apart from the Viennese classics, all done to perfection, you'll find seasonal offers on the daily menu. You'll also be able to see where the ingredients come from as that is yet another focus. Until finally, what you get is a great overall experience that proves that a little twist, here and there, will completely renew the appearance of a classic dish. A noteworty interaction of tradition and modern cuisine.
