The thought behind Almanak is that there is every reason to consume what is in season right now. As the seasons change throughout the year – the menu will only reflect what is grown locally in Denmark at that season and that is the structural principle behind Almanak’s kitchen.

Almanak is one of four restaurants and a Jazz Club at ‘The standard’  - a very beautiful Art Deco building from 1937 placed by the harbor side in the center of Copenhagen. The building stands out at the harbor side with its turquoise color and the long odd shape with round edges. It somehow reminds you of a ship.

Once you get inside you immediately feel welcome. Almanak is placed on the ground floor to the right and the walls are painted in different blu-ish colors. The interior reflects the minimalistic and Scandinavian way of living and you feel like this could be your own living.

I chose the course meal to taste everything in season right now. Everything was arranged beautiful and tasted delicious for only 350 DDK. The kitchen is in the center of the restaurant and is fully open so you can watch as the chef’s preform at what they are best at: cooking nice and tasty meals.

In the winter you should ask for a table by the window so you can sit and enjoy the beautiful lights in the harbor. In the summer you should ask to dine at the terrace outside the building by the edge of the water. If you are looking for a delicious meal for a very reasonable price – I strongly recommend Almanak. The food, the service and the surroundings are simply magnificent.
