Tonight we can not sit outside unfortunately - a storm is brewing. Nonetheless, this location in Wollishofen, Zurich doesn’t lose its charm. We sit in the warm restaurant and view the greenish, stormy Zurich lake. Those in the garden needn’t worry: tables and benches are covered under the tent. So neither guests nor the sought after local battered fish get wet. Depending on the catch and season, it’s battered whitefish, lake trout or perch. Adrian Gerny fishes daily the catch of the day straight from the lake.

My companion and I split an appetizer of battered whitefish with homemade tartar and the artichoke with vegetable vinaigrette. For the main course we order the blue trout with cherry tomatoes, olives and fresh herbs and the Vienna Schnitzel with cranberries. Everything tastes wonderful, above all the recommended white wine, which was a great accompaniment to our dinner. It’s a 2013 Heida Visperterminen from the Valais. Tasting of nuts and honey it is, so we are told, a rarity.

Fischer's Fritz is an experience and has something to offer for everyone: families for Sunday brunch, evenings a perfect place for couples to enjoy a romantic sunset. The view of the lake, the generous lawn, the volleyball field and the stand-up paddlers pass on the feeling of vacation. One can also spend a night in one of the stylish tents. Heard of glamping? The exact mix of glamor and camping is embodied by the safari tents and their furnishings. Here you sleep in a real bed, not an air mattress.

I ordered the Heida again during my next visit to Fischer's Fritz. This time, with much reluctance, I skip the crispy schnitzel and opt instead for the freshwater-fish sushi. Thus, leaving plenty of space for dessert: the candy-floss, which I curiously fancy.
