'Making Things' is located in the "Fourth District's new design cluster" as René Grüninger, originator of Kreislauf 4+5 design walking tour, recently termed the area around Grüngasse. It has now been almost 10 years, since Clod Bernegger and Hanna Kawasaki opened their first store there. At the time a team of three, the textile and fashion designers were located at no. 10 at first, and sold designs of artist friends and young designers in addition to their own self-tailored and printed garments. They were an overnight success, but had to vacate the store two years later as the building was then demolished.

Clod and Hanna decided to continue and opened a new shop at nearby Grüngasse 20. They presented their range of international young labels including the popular fashion label 'Steven Alan' from the USA, 'Samuji' from Finland, and the beautiful Swedish knitwear from 'Maska'. During my visit last week, I discovered and acquired a great pair of light summer trousers from Copenhagen label Libertine & Libertine's latest collection.

In the meantime, the shop-owners only exhibit their women's collection. The men's collection 'Making Things Men' is located in 'Frau Gerold's Garten', where, among others, London label 'Folk Clothing' and 'The Hill-side' accessories can be found. The next great achievement will be 'Making Little Things' for children, in the new residential area of Kalkbreite. There also lies Hanna's favorite find, 'As we grow' from the Playtime. 'Making Little Things', as with 'Making Things', will also be an asset to Zurich!
