.How to get there
I am saying already, that I will tell my grandchildren about how I flew from Tempelhof Airport. Unbelievable that airplanes were arriving and departing in the middle of the city. During Berlin Air Bridge the airport was used by the western Allies to feed the city.
In 2008 the airport was shut down and after a referendum opened to the population of Berlin. Ever since it is one of the few places in the city that give you a sentiment of freedom. A place where you can see the horizon and the city seems to be far, far away.
The area is 335 hectares big and there is enough space for everyone to do what they want without disturbing anyone. The wide landing strips are perfect for skating, cycling or running. The meadows are used for barbeques, football and sunbathing. If it is windy you can see giant kites on the sky and all the time there are events, concerts and fairs outside and inside the hangars of the former airport.
