The Neue Museum reopened a few years ago on the Museum Island. The inner parts of the museum were wrecked for years after the building was destroyed during the Second World War.

Since the reconstruction of the Friedrich August Stühler building, under David Chipperfield, the building has won many architectural prizes, including one for its detailed perfection. During the reconstruction, great importance was placed on the preservation of the intact elements of the classical building.

The museum is open for visitors again since the construction work was completed in 2009. Visitors can admire the papyrus collection, the Egyptian Museum and the Museum of Prehistory and Early History, with highlights, such as the famous bust of Nefertiti.

Today, the approximately 8,000-square-meter exhibition space, next to the Old National Gallery, is not only worth seeing because of the exhibits, but also because of the successful interplay of historical and new architectural elements.
