Sustainable and eco-friendly living is possible without having to pass on modern design - this is once more proven by a Prenzlauer Berg interior decorator that I discovered at KulturBrauerei yesterday. I got to talking with the store’s owner, who is also managing an online shop on the side, at the in-store coffee bar.

His name is Christian Voss and he demands nothing but the highest standards of the products he sells. Sustainable design, functionality, eco-friendliness and the best of craftsmanship are just some of his requirements for objects to make it into his selection. Voss and his team work together closely with their suppliers to make sure nothing goes below standard or against their philosophy.

Durability, high quality and best workmanship have top priority, so do considerate use of resources, low-emission production and ethical labor conditions. Well-known designers are involved, and many of the products have won design awards.

Among the exhibits I found pieces by brands like Arco, Santa & Cole or Zeitraum, a company I have gotten to know and appreciate through some of my own projects. You’ll find Brühl upholstery right next to beautiful linear and accurately worked out kitchen furniture by Latvian company Mint. I fell in love immediately with an overhead light by Mammalampa and an ultra-light wooden chair.

You will also find children’s furniture by Stocke, cheerful accessories by ferm living and unique pieces by Italian brand Riva, that are made from Venice’s decommissioned wooden stakes. In the very back there’s a loungey couch by Verzelloni above which you’ll find Lumas photographs, the whole installation is basically asking you to throw yourself into it. The house’s own collection of side tables, boards and other objects, ‘Green Living Select’, caught my eye too.

As I found out later, Green Living also offers planning and realization of entire interior concepts with a focus on ‘Healthy Living’. Their finished projects include the vacation apartments at Haus Seefeuer for example.
