Naming all the good things about Scandic Berlin Potsdamer Platz is not an easy thing to do. I fell in love when we entered the first room. This hotel is not the Stue, nor is it the Regent, but within its category, and especially considering its second-to-none sustainability factor, I find it one of the best places to stay in the city.

Among the numerous positive traits is the central location. Situated right on Potsdamer Platz, it's very easy to head to the city's most important sights. The rooms have a Scandinavian feel to them, spanning from not just the color scheme comprising the 'four seasons' but the pine and walnut wood floors, anti-allergic box-spring beds and even the untreated wooden furniture turn the room into a real comfort zone.

Rooms are equipped with a waste bin divided into three sections for recycling. The bathrooms offer products by Swedish natural cosmetics label FACE, however, they don't come in individual packages but refillable dispensers.

The electricity is provided by Greenpeace Energy. The restaurant and the bar serve German wines only, as well as coffee from fair trade and honey from the hotel's own rooftop beehives. Every supplier has to sign a 'code of conduct' in order to get a deal – an action that has impressed even someone like Jamie Oliver who has been working with the Scandic-Group since 2009 and is in charge of the children's menu and part of the daily specials.

For fitness, the Scandic collaborates with Holmes Place, the adjacent luxury gymnasium, and offers heavily reduced pricing for hotel guests. You see, the restless ones are well taken care of, too.

The Scandic started developing a sustainabilty program in 1993, that is unparalleled in the business. The almost self-evident endeavor to offer their guests the best possible while maintaining the highest possible ecological standards has truly impressed me. What can I say, the Swedes just know how to do it!
