.How to get there
Actually still very urban in the Schwamendingen district, but at the same time on the edge of the forest, the idyllic Gartenwirtschaft Ziegelhütte presents itself as a small green oasis in the urban environment.
Just a few turns away from the hectic main road and the currently never-ending road construction work, you reach the cosy country house surrounded by lots of greenery and immediately imagine yourself in a little natural paradise.
The cuisine is simple but of the highest quality, with ingredients from the own vegetable garden and home-grown produce from the forest and surrounding meadows and fields. The team attaches the most significant importance to the quality and regionality of the food, including, of course, the baking of the crusty wood-fired bread.
Now that early summer has finally begun, a large garden terrace invites you to linger, where sophisticated salads are served, such as the vegan 'Ceviche Style' dish with kohlrabi, radishes and coriander with spring onions, which can also be ordered with the finest Swiss salmon sashimi.
The tender venison tagliata with rock pear chutney and semolina slice is just as seductive as the juicy short ribs of organic beef with spicy BBQ sauce and squash potatoes. Of course, the well-known classics of a garden restaurant can also be found here, such as cordon bleu of organic beef with red cabbage pickles and crispy french fries or irresistible Zurich veal escalope with rösti. Served with Swiss wines or selected wines from nearby countries.
For a short break from the hot city, the Ziegelhütte is a great place to enjoy cool drinks and light and hearty delicacies. Afterwards, take a short walk through the forest, marvel at the view of Zurich shimmering in the sunlight, and a little Sunday outing almost feels like a holiday.
Don't miss it: On individual dates in July and August, there is live music and suckling pig from the grill in the beer garden.
