.How to get there
For those who haven’t been here before, now is the time. It could well be the last summer for the Fischstube at Zürichhorn. Since 2011, the three well-known gastronomes Mike Gut, Erik Haemmerli and Marco Pfoster had the right for temporary occupancy of the premises. However, the restaurant will be replaced by a new winterized establishment, planned for the coming year.
Until then, the three successful owners provide an excellent fish restaurant, a cool bar with outdoor lounge, and a kiosk beer garden directly at the lake. Once again I visited the restaurant just last week, so to speak, for the season opening. Unfortunately it was too cold to enjoy the wonderful lakeside terrace with views of the city and the Glarus Alps. So we sat in the cozy interior, which also guarantees a lake view.
Fish, of course, is notably on the menu. From char, crispy-fried pikeperch to the turbot, all are brought fresh to the table. And you can taste it! I personally had the sea bass, which was simply delicious. The menu also offers classics for meat lovers, including beef tenderloin and Wiener Schnitzel. The Schnitzel, served with warm potato salad was also marvelously convincing.
In an interview with Marco I learn later of the great value gourmets place on the quality of the produce, thus determining the selection of their dishes. They obtain their buffalo mozzarella via "Chäs Vreneli" from Italy and the tagliatelle is lovingly hand-made and prepared by Patrizia Fontana at home. I am impressed by how much passion lies behind everything here. And as soon as a sunny afternoon returns, I’ll come back and start the evening with a drink in the cozy lounge. Hamptons-style guaranteed!
