The bartenders at Bar am Wasser may be seen climbing the two-storey gallery when the spirit on offer is at the top. With a collection of around 400 bottles on display here, they had to be inventive in terms of capacity and simply moved them to where they belong: the center of the bar.
But you could also just look out: Located directly on the Stadthausquai on the Limmat, the bar on the waterfront looks out directly over Lake Zurich. The ambience is extremely cosy and tasteful, with dark blue velour sofas and a remarkable chandelier on the high ceiling. Speaking of taste, the selection of wines and champagnes is also truly impressive. In addition to the fine drinks, there are small dishes and snacks.
But the exclusive cocktails are undoubtedly the stars of the evening. Dirk Hany, former head of the Widder Bar, bar manager Luca Huber, and their team use all sorts of tricks and kitchen and laboratory equipment to capture aromas for their creative and seasonally changing drinks. A rotary evaporator, for example, distils the essence of herbs and fruits. Or the mixologists give a drink an extensive bouquet with a single spray.
The spirits that can be admired so wonderfully in the gallery are not on the cocktail menu. Instead, Hany and his team focus on the essential flavours and raw materials. The guest should only choose a drink based on its taste. - Here, the fine drink is celebrated without question.
