BOLD Hotel Easy Living in Munich Giesing

"Smooth", is the first thing I think of when I enter the BOLD Munich's hotel lobby. A large counter painted greyish-blue completed with brass details, very much Mid-Century design. The breakfast and bistro area is laid out just behind it, equipped with a selection of different chairs and timeless oak tables under a colourful sky of lampshades that'll lift your spirit. It feels like coming home.

Renowned Munich architects Arnold & Werner teamed up with artist Caroline van Oel to decorate this space and turn it into a unique place, intimate and contemporary with vintage pieces and countless whimsical details. A larger part of the interior, however, was custom-designed by the designers themselves and made by artisans in the area. Nothing is off the rack!

Elements that you'll find repeatedly throughout the house make the entire ensemble more coherent: warm shades of grey, oak wood floors, and textiles by Kvadrat of Switzerland. Each room comes with a very purist, yet tasteful bathroom. The Superior Apartment that I booked even has a small kitchenette equipped with a refrigerator and a small stove top.

I become an instant fan of the concept after initial doubts about the location. Admittedly, Giesing is not, well, a very picturesque area. But the atmosphere inside the hotel is so warm and welcome, you'll quickly forget anything outside of these four walls. The train station is a mere 10-minute walk away and from there it's just 5 stops to Isartor. Finding parking space is a laugher in this neighbourhood and even the congress halls are just a stone's throw away.

In 2013, this hotel with its 142 rooms opened its doors as the first BOLD Group hotel and became an instant success. Not least because of specials such as the rooftop bar that is spectacular on a mild summer night. Unfortunately, during my stay, the weather has already turned its back on summer but I do get a chance to witness „Tatort-Sunday“ when all guests gather to watch the primetime Sunday classic, crisps and peanuts provided.

Those who care to purchase one of the interior accessories can easily do that through their BOLD online store. Sadly, the heavenly mattress and the beautifully scented soap are not for sale yet. But that just means I'll have to come back – at the latest when BOLD opens its next house in the city centre.
