Louis C. Jacob Pure Luxury by the River Elbe

I am meeting a celebrity tonight. A true Hamburg persona, much-loved and admired by all. I’ve been wanting to meet him for a long time, feel his noble aura. That moment has arrived. I am entering the premises of Hamburg’s five-star hotel Louis C. Jacob, a true star of the city.  My nervousness faded away quickly, the ambience is very comfortable, neither elitist nor stiff in any way but elegant and simple. The staff is young, dynamic and very courteous.

This hotel has been standing on beautiful Elbchaussee since 1791. After an extensive, and very detailed renovation, new director Jost Deitmar re-opened the hotel in 1996 and has taken it to the top among luxury hotels. It was even named one of the ‘Leading Hotels of the World’ in 2002. Perfect all-round care is guaranteed: 143 ‘Jacobins’ are employed to take care of the 85 guest rooms. But the highlight is the hotel’s own restaurant, that’s been awarded 2 Michelin stars under chef de cuisine Thomas Martin. He has been making fine fresh food with a French accent for 18 years.

The rooms are spacious and equipped with refurbished empire furniture, antiquities and custom designs. The hotel offers intriguing cultural event arrangements and guided cruises with the Queen Mary or the See Cloud. But the best thing remains the view of it all: watch the cruise ships passing by slowly, while sitting sitting on the terrace - that Elbe panorama is breathtaking!

My initial gidiness came right back when I heard that Robert Redford got married at Louis C. Jacob in 2009. Whenever someone gets married in the Nienstedtener church just opposite the hotel, the staff brings out the red carpet - for celebrities and civilians alike - and unrolls it right across Elbchaussee. With that in mind, you might even get over the fact that it’s not Robert Redford you’re marrying.
