If only the clouds were gone!, I moaned when we first entered Hedi Teherani’s famous ‘Dancing Towers’ on Reeperbahn. We were on our way to Hamburg’s newest culinary attraction, Clouds, a place with a special view. A record-breaking elevator ride later, we arrived at Clouds on the 23rd floor: as cloudy as it was on the ground, it was all the more breath-takingly clear 105 meters up high.

We started at the bar, long and made of dark oak wood, and enjoyed drinks that bar chef Richard ‘Richi’ Dühkohp created for Clouds only. We felt we could sit here for hours and just stare - and I’m talking about barstools! But the mystery was solved quickly: there’s a motion element integrated into the stainless steel-leather stools we were sitting on, hence the surprising comfort.

Luckily, we managed to get up and get to our first class dining table by the window. The choice of food was a quick one since the team behind the bar had told us about the incomparable rotisserie food available at Clouds. But before the entrées began, our lovely server Ina prepared a fresh serving of tartar right at our table, and just the way we wanted it! Our second appetizer was tuna ‘Vitello Style’ served with slices of marinated veal tenderloin, capers and mustard-egg-mayo. The couple sitting next to us was just as much in awe as we were when our main course arrived: a juicy poulet noir that was skilfully carved for us at table. Delicious!

The whole night felt like spending an evening on cloud nine, and whenever we looked out of the window, time and again, we were mesmerized by that view. How good then is the view up on the 24th floor, where there is a complete glass front and an open air summer terrace? We promise to try out the comfy daybeds as well as the Moët Ice Champagne Bar, and we’ll report back!
