.How to get there
„Chapeau“, that’s a hat in French. – French and English could be pretty annoying at school… but „Chapeau“ also means „respect“ and „well done“ – and that e.g. I learned at the age of 13 in Brillantmont International School in the beautiful city of Lausanne on the shores of Lake Geneva. There, languages came to life!
While being cared for attentively and learning languages, our children find friends for life, have fun, practice sport, discover different cultures – isn’t that what we parents are always looking for our children? For more than 130 years the majestic buildings in a private park in Lausanne have been hosting pupils from all over the world and that’s exactly what I am looking for for my child, too.
Being a teenager at the time I was amazed by the view from my room: the lake, the mountains of the Mont Blanc range in France just opposite. For more than five generations, families (many of whom are well-known) have been enabling their children to enjoy unforgettable moments and state-of-the-art education at Brillantmont. Here, not only languages are learned and improved during lessons, but also Sport and „joie de vivre“ have a large part during the day… and of course fun in the rooms in the evening.
I shared my room with girls from Mexico and India. We chatted in English and the first words of Spanish, sometimes till late at night – if we were not caught by the teachers! The owning family and the whole team take care of the student’s well-being around-the-clock.
During the summer course, the youth of the world, aged 10-16 meets in Brillantmont. In the morning there are language lessons, in the afternoon and during the week-end there are sports like stand up paddle, tennis, beach-volleyball, football, basketball, swimming and windsurfing. Weekend excursions include glacier walks, rock climbing, a visit to the Swiss capital Berne, or the Olympic Museum as Lausanne hosts the IOC. – Maybe that’s the reason why I worked for the Olympic Games in Vancouver 2010 and London 2012?
„I really did not want to go to Brillantmont, but now I don’t wanna go home! How will I explain to my parents that I want to come back next year?“ I was asking myself after my first summer course. I missed all my new friends from over 30 nations before leaving already. But I have found a wonderful network that still exists today and has become more and more useful also for business reasons. It was not only an unforgettable summer, it was much much more! Thank you Mami and Daddy!
Recently a multipurpose hall was built on campus offering the possibility for even more sport and more culture. If I was young again, I definitely would say yes please! This year the Summer Course runs from Saturday 4th July to Saturday 15th August (min. 2 weeks). – „Chapeau“!
