With the May re-opening of Razzia in Seefeld, Zurich's gastronomy scene has gained a world-class restaurant. Without exaggerating, it's probably the biggest establishment since the Kronenhalle. The people of Zurich have always seen the heritage-listed establishment doing a term. A silent movie theater in the '20's, later an adult theater and shortly revived from its slumber from 2008 to 2011 for cultural purposes, Razzia already has a rich history behind it.

Under the aegis of Claudia Silberschmidt, interior architect, Stefan Roth, experienced restaurateur and manager, and Peter Silberschmidt, responsible for structure and finances, Razzia, after an 18-month refurbishment, has emerged in quite a new era. Claudia Silberschmidt and Josephine Reveman, together with Katharina Mark from the interior design office 'atelier Zurich' - and its recently opened concept store, 'Frohsinn' – have created a stunning architectural redesign. Great consideration to its historical setting and current zeitgeist has lead to a unique eclectic mix. A highlight is the five-meter tall, elegantly 'Pied de Poule' wrapped giraffe – the Grande Dame "Zarafa", which is found in the great hall of the restaurant.

Equally impressive is the culinary art from the kitchen and the bar. The restaurant's menu features specialties from around the world, including traditional and modern dishes. During my visit last week, I ordered Rino's Grand Cru foie gras and the Razzia en brochette. Both dishes were outstanding. The next table also showed great satisfaction, assuring delight. The beef on the spit was exceptional; it fell away like butter on the tongue, its tenderness unsurpassed. We were thrilled by the accompanying 'Château Petit-Figeac' wine from their in-house wine store, which the owners refer to as their "Weinkino".

There is an extraordinary range of wines available for guests to take home and served at the bar, where from nine o'clock in the morning in-house made French croissants, good coffee and fresh juices are served. About noon the business continues smoothly with small dishes offered on the lunch menu and in evening the finest drinks. I can see myself frequenting Razzia often in the future!
