Codos
Rosenthaler Straße 1
10119 Berlin-Mitte
.How to get there
You really wouldn't expect this little oasis in the courtyard when you enter Codos on the lively Rosenthaler Platz. The café itself exudes a pleasant big city atmosphere; kept in pastel, very stylish, a bit like in LA perhaps. If you walk through to the terrace, you then enter the small courtyard shared with The Circus Hotel. A real Berlin backyard dream.
It all started in 2014 with Codos in Hamburg, inspired by the love of coffee, gastronomy and the many travels of the two owners. Since 2019, there is the Black Apron in Berlin, which is part of the Codos family. There, the finest baked goods are created under the aegis of Pasty Chef Norbert. High-quality ingredients like his favorite, finest Issigny butter directly from France, are what we have to thank for his baked goods being so delicious. Cruffins, cakes, croissants - dough dreams come true.
The delicious croissants and exquisite American biscuits are delightful breakfast treats in their own right. But it's also worth visiting Codos for an extended brunch, especially if you can enjoy it on the secluded terrace in beautiful weather.
A light granola with a choice of Greek or vegan coconut yogurt, for example, is the perfect start to the day; foodies will certainly be happy with the buttermilk pancakes plus maple syrup, with extra bacon from the tireless Sausagemen if desired. Whether it's a breakfast burrito that's perfect for exploring the city, or a bicuit with avocado and salmon, and wonderfully spicy Turkish eggs for the perfect hangover breakfast, everything at Codos is homemade and licks all ten fingers.
There's good coffee at Codos anyway. They see themselves as a Third Wave roastery, because it all began with a filter coffee brewbar in Hamburg's Schanze district. However, since the Hamburg resident did not want to do without his cappuccino, Codos quickly said goodbye to coffee dogmatism and bean ruthlessness.
Instead, Codos - in Hamburg as in Berlin - simply serves good coffee. No lecturing, but from small coffee farmers. It goes perfectly with the fantastic pasta, great brunch dishes, or just hanging out in the enchanting backyard.
