Paula Wiesinger Apartments & Suites – Time Out in South Tyrol

Breathe in, breathe out. Notice how perplexingly unimportant the little frustrations of day-to-day life are when observed from the top of a mountain. — What sounds like a mantra from a mental coaching CD was my reality last weekend when I spent three days as a guest at the Paula Wiesinger Apartments & Suites on the Seiser Alm, newly opened in 2015.

Even now that I’m back at my München desk with an endless to-do list before me, I’m surprised that I still get excited thinking back on my weekend in South Tyrol. I’m usually someone who, given the choice, will choose sea over mountains any day.

Having arrived on the Seiser Alm and after moving into my apartment in Paula Wiesinger, I quickly realised that that could change. How incredible is it to wake up every morning to a panoramic view of a luscious green meadow and mountain landscape from bed? To open the balcony door to a gust of the indescribable scent of fresh hay and mountain air?

In Paula Wiesinger Apartments & Suites, this fresh fragrance is mixed with the smell of untreated larch wood, which makes up the interior trim. Combined with oak floorboards and stone from the region, a Seis-based architect duo has demonstrated how great things can come from local ingredients.

I didn't even have to leave the room, complete with a wellness bath, in order to relax. Not really. But there was a gorgeous landscape right outside the door just waiting to be discovered. Whether you enjoy hiking, climbing, or mountainbiking in the summer or prefer hitting the snowy winter slopes is up to you. It’s worth it every time.

I must admit, my enthusiasm is also largely owed to the fact that alongside the sporty outdoor activities South Tyrol offers fantastic culinary experiences. One wonderful tour leads to Gostner Schweige— the wildflower soup served in a crispy bread bowl and the caramelised Kaiserschmarrn are absolutely divine. And dinner at Furscher Mühle is a must: the enchanting atmosphere and remarkable food are worth more than one visit.

I can’t stop fawning over every last detail, including the wonderfully arranged wellness areas in the Paula Wiesinger Apartments & Suites. Between your morning hike and evening indulgence is the perfect time for a quick pit stop in the sauna or steam bath while you contemplate whether you’d rather finish resting on the sun terrace in your own room or in the cosy relaxing room.

The hotel’s namesake also accompanies you throughout the house: photos and slide films are a testament to the life of the incredible woman who counts herself as one of the first ever top female athletes.

If you're eager to hurry off on your own holiday, be sure to book early enough— one glance at the booking schedule would indicate that this South Tyrol insider tip has already been leaked…
