Volksbühne Exciting Productions in Mitte

The construction of Volksbühne at Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz was completed in 1914 after the blueprint of Oskar Kaufmanns. Then as now the theatre was sensational due to its productions. During the Nazi regime the Volksbühne used to be forced into line like all the other stages in Germany. The complete destruction during Second World War, was followed by reconstruction work from 1950 to 1954 with simplified exterior.

Until the turnaround the Volksbühne was mostly working on productions from Heiner Müller Furore. 1992 Frank Castorf became the new intendant. His Productions and the work of Christoph Schlingensief were pioneering for the nineties. With plays like "Kill your Darlings" from René Pollesch actor Fabian Hinrichs is very successful today. Architectural the high ceilings and airiness of the rooms is very impressive.
