In 1741 the foundation for the construction of Europe’s biggest opera house was laid. The building was the first detached opera house in Germany and is still influencing the city. At that time the splendid concert house was called "Lindenoper" and served the German royalty. Despite several destructive incidents like fires and bombings it was rebuild again and again.

International fame for the Staatsoper came with significant premieres and important directors. The diversity of productions makes it to one of the world’s leading opera houses. When visiting one of the great concerts you also have the chance to visit one of the most beautiful concert houses worldwide. The hall is covered in stunning gold details and is impressive in size.

From 2010 to 2017 the Staatsoper had to be dislodged to the Schiller Theater due to urgent construction work.
