.How to get there

The current trend of home made food discovered Lebensmittel in Mitte years ago. During a time where no one talked about being down-to-earth and using regional ingredients, the Bavarian Johannes Kreiss opened his shop/restaurant in Mitte and has ever since enjoyed growing popularity.

What used to be a delicatessen store and a restaurant to begin with now works the other way around. During lunch time the former music-and art student serves South German treats from an ever changing menu: for example Roasted Pork with a Dark Beer Sauce, Bread Dumplings and Sauerkraut or Bacon-covered Pheasant. Amazing!

In the shelves round the rustic tables one can find selected delicatessen from small German manufacturers. Honey from the Black Forest, marmalade from Berlin, mustard made in Thuringia, tinned food from Regensburg, beer brewed from wheat made in Rosenheim, schnapps made in Volkach and so on.

In the refrigerated counter there is sausage from Franconia, cheese from Langenegg and homemade sausage-potato salad ready to be eaten. With your coffee you’ll get a Kaiserschmarrn and Zwetschgenröster.

If I am in Mitte there is no way past this cozy space located on Rochstraße. Not to forget they sell pretty good pretzels - for Berlin standards anyway - delivered daily by the bakery Sporys.
