Brunette – Most Promising New Hair Stylist 2013
Casually and somewhat invisible, you’ll find André Staack and Henry Lemke’s new studio in a beautiful little Kreuzberg remise. Media and design agency DESERVE took care of the interior and managed to make it look carefree, fresh and very French. Warm grey walls, sulfur-yellow details, very homey. It is gorgeous, and you could almost think you’re in the Marais quarter of Paris.
The salon only opened up in May, but word spreads quickly, so make sure to make an appointment way ahead. For anything hair-related, the studio uses sustainable cosmetics by Australian brand ‘evo’ - their motto: ‘saving ordinary humans from themselves’, their mission: giving back a little bit of honesty to the beauty industry.
André greets me warmly and seems very open from the first second on. Before deciding to open up a joint studio with his colleague Henry, he worked for Shan Rahimkhan, Mod’s Hair and Hanley’s Hair Company in Mitte.
His hands are calm, he listens carefully to what I tell him, examines the structure of my hair, gives me his ideas but manages not to push me into any direction at any moment. It couldn’t go any better between a hair stylist and his customer, and I felt like I was in good hands when he started applying golden blond highlights employing a new painting-technique. And he did it with the sort of passion and dedication that leaves no room for doubt that he’s in the right profession.
With yet another cutting technique unknown to me before he started trimming my hair, giving it the new pep I desired. The new color blends perfectly and the cut finally gave that exhausting transition length an actual shape.
And when I met my girl friends the next night, their reactions proved to me that it was not just my own subjective opinion - I couldn’t even remember how long it had been since the last time that I got that many compliments on a haircut. One of them actually made an appointment while we were still together. I don’t think there’s better proof for success! Thank you for my fantastic new look, André!
