Bellwinkel – Two Women With a Passion for Good Food
Following their passion for good food, top-quality delicacies, and fine accessories, former architect Carola Doering and social education worker Pia Koppelkamm opened their wonderful shop Bellwinkel over ten years ago. This culinary concept store feels like a private kitchen inside, so cozy you never want to leave.
Next to a set stock of oils, vinegars, salts, and oriental ingredients, the range of products changes approximately every three months to fit itself to a completely new theme. Amongst the hand-selected goods you can always find a selection of English and oriental products, including marmalades, chutneys, and chocolates. There are countless excellent cookbooks and aprons made by hand in Berlin. The bread comes from Soluna. The chocolate-covered marshmallows from Mayer Junior in Bremen. The cake, to be enjoyed as desert or with a cup of freshly brewed coffee, is naturally homemade.
Every time I step into the store I’m overcome by the heavenly aroma of exotic spices. Especially between noon and 3pm, when seasonal soups, appetisers, and mains are freshly prepared in house and served for lunch. Many of the dishes originate from oriental inspiration and are always prepared with fresh, organic, local vegetables. And no matter what you choose, everything tastes as good as it looks and it really feels like a good friend had cooked for you.
The two also prove how well they respect their profession through their equally lovingly prepared catering services. They can provide cold and warm dishes- also nearly always inspired by oriental or mediterranean themes- for up to 150 people, and will deliver and even set everything up upon request. And if you’ve ever been to Bellwinkel, it’s self-explanatory that Carola Doering and Pia Koppelkamm have a particular knack for it.
